INTERNATIONAL ISLAMIC FAIR 2007
(PUTRA WORLD TRADE CENTER, KUALA LUMPUR – 27th to 29th JULY 2007)

June last year, IIS in collaboration with SABA Islamic Media organized the International Islamic Fair 2006 (IIF2006) at the PWTC, Kuala Lumpur. The 3-in-1 (Trade Fair, Conference & Dinner Concert) event being such a success, it was decided to make IIF an annual event.

The 3-day IIF2007 will be held on July 27th to 29th 2007, with almost triple the number of trade exhibitors! And guess what.. IIF is now officially endorsed by MATRADE , after just one event! That should say something about IIF’s past performance…

Last year’s Conference and Dinner Concert were such a talk-of-the-town, spreading beyond the PWTC premises, into the print media, TV talk shows, etc. We are proud to announce that IIS played a critical role in organizing the Conference and the Gala Dinner Concert (“Sounds of Islam”) last year, and similarly this year – for the IIF2007 !!

Last year’s “Sounds of Islam” (Raihan-Malaysia, ChebAli-Egypt, ZainBhikha-S.Africa, DawudWharnsbyAli-N.America) still ringing in your ears? You are not alone! Many admitted to having such a great time and have no hesitation calling it the “Dinner Concert of the Year”. If you missed it last year… well.. don’t miss the coming one.

Why dinner concert? The IIF2007 Dinner Concert plays an important role – to help achieve the IIF mission and vision. The people-to-people contact and networking would not be complete without the crucial social and cultural aspects. The otherwise ‘heavy’ mission of the IIF requires the lighter human side for an enduring presence. As our IIF Ambassador, sister Wardina puts it: “All work and no fun would be dull…”! And what’s more, a big portion of the proceeds is for funding the on-going Hotel Qur’an Project.
So, mark your diary for the Saturday evening of 28th July! Be there for the great food and great entertainment – and for a great cause! Trust us, you don’t want to be anywhere else that particular evening!

CTRE MOSQUE TOUR SEMINAR
(IIS Headquarters, Taman Setiawangsa, Kuala Lumpur – 12th May 2007)

The Program: Mosque Tour Seminar in conjunction with IIF2007, in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia.
Objective: To help participants, especially Tour Guides – both Muslims and non-Muslims, to obtain a good basic knowledge of Islam which is necessary for a proper understanding of the function of a mosque and activities associated with it.

Among subjects covered are:

1. Role of the Mosque in the Muslim World
2. The Mosque Tour
3. Prayer – the Second Pillar of Islam
4. Demonstration & Benefits of Salat (Prayer)

The Lecture and Q&A session was then followed by an actual MOSQUE TOUR of the Muaz bin Jabal Mosque at Taman Setiawangsa. Going by the feedback of the participants at the end of the day, the program was rated extremely beneficial and successful, with some saying they learnt so much on that one day – not only on the various aspects of the mosque and the form of a Muslim’s worship, but also the underlying philosophy.

The Chairman of Muaz bin Jabal Mosque gave away the participation certificates at the Certificate Giving Ceremony.

BRIEFING to VISITORS from URI (United Religions Initiative)
(IIS Headquarters, Taman Setiawangsa,Kuala Lumpur – 18^th March 2007)

The Program: Undertaking the initiative on behalf of ACCIN in receiving mostly non-Muslim guests from URI South East Asia Pacific, as part of its program held in Kuala Lumpur, in collaboration with INSaF (Dr Amir Farid as its chairman) and its mother organization, the Pure Life Society (Mother Mangalam as its spiritual matriarch).

About URI: URI stands for United Religions Initiative with its headquarters in the USA. Its Objective is “To promote interfaith cooperation, end religiously motivated violence and create a culture of peace, justice and healing for Earth and all living beings”.

As part of its 3rd annual regional meeting in KL, the URI team with representatives from all over the world (including Malaysia, Philippines, Australia, Mexico, and USA), had planned visits to churches, temples and an Islamic organization.

The presentation on IIS covered various aspects of the organization including its vision & mission, its guiding principles, its modus operandi, its internal programs, and its past events. The presentation was followed by a very vibrant and lively Q&A and discussions, with URI members from Philippines and Mexico agreeing with IIS presenter’s remark with regard to the damaging way of the world’s main stream media.

The Philippine member related how in his experience of genuinely promoting interfaith understanding with the Philipino Muslims, the media were much less interested in reporting positive developments than in over-dramatizing issues of negative consequences.

The day ended with friendly chit-chats and ‘makan-makan’!!
